Racing history.
Ferdinand Porsche designed the SSK in 1928 as his answer to the most demanding question in motor racing: how fast can a car be and still remain within human control? The 7.1-litre straight-six with Roots supercharger produced a soundtrack at full throttle that intimidated opponents and spectators alike. The compressor's shriek became the signature of an era.
Rudolf Caracciola won the 1929 Tourist Trophy in the SSK and dominated the European racing season. The car was uncompromising — brutal, fast, and unforgiving. Hans Stuck, Rudi Caracciola and Luigi Fagioli, the finest drivers of the time, all chose the SSK as their weapon of choice.
Only 33 original SSKs were ever built. Most are now in museum collections. Pur Sang constructs the SSK to original drawings — using the same methods as the original: in-house casting, English wheel bodywork, and every rivet in its place.
What Pur Sang builds.
The Mercedes-Benz SSK is the highest-displacement car in the Pur Sang portfolio: 7.1 litres, straight-six with Roots supercharger, exposed exhaust trumpets. The workshop produces the engine block, bodywork and running gear entirely in-house. The characteristic boattail body is shaped from aluminium sheet on the English wheel — no press tools, no simplified assemblies. Every SSK leaves Paraná with complete documentation and is race-ready from day one.
